As COVID-19 continued to wreak havoc across the globe, ISACA reached out to its community to see how the novel coronavirus is affecting you:

Jenai Marinkovic

Agility is Key to Survival

“Since agility is key to survival, organizations should expect to see more rapid adoption in areas that unlock or enhance agility, such as automation, artificial intelligence, cloud and robotics. Other emergent technologies like augmented reality and blockchain may also see a rise in adoption. Given that COVID-19 may have provided the accelerant for these ‘big bang disruptions,’ security, audit, governance, and compliance professionals may need to more rapidly improve their knowledge and skillsets in these areas. We cannot understate the difficulty in doing this, given the tactical issues these organizations currently face. However, teams that can successfully pivot can get to market faster and safer, thus providing a real competitive differentiation."
– Jenai Marinkovic, vCISO & vCTO at Tiro Security and advisory board member at Beyond

Moving Toward New Ways of Doing Business

"Organizations are rapidly and aggressively moving toward new ways of doing business during this time, which is a very positive thing, but it can also lead to making compromises that can leave them vulnerable to threats. A surge in the number of remote workers means there is a greater attack surface. Remote work is critically important right now, so security has to be at the forefront along with employee education. ISACA professionals have an especially critical role to play in protecting their enterprises, customers and stakeholders during this pandemic."
– David Samuelson, ISACA CEO

Tech Overall is Steady

“Whatever ‘normal’ we return to at the end of this pandemic won’t look like anything we can currently predict. However, I believe that the tech industry and professionals will weather this big event better than many other industries, and the survey results also suggest this. The tech areas thriving most right now are information security, cloud computing, collaboration tools, video streaming and social media. Even if we as tech professionals are not associated with these big winners, tech overall is steady—and, in some cases, thriving.”

A Multi-pronged Solution

“It will be imperative for a multi-pronged approach combining the individual-private enterprise and the government to not only recover today, but to also sustain the recovery and prevent a slide. This will be critical to not only survive in the 'new normal,' but also to ensure that new strategies and tactics developed now are followed sustainably. History is littered with examples of how we as humans forget dangers and difficulties once they are past us. In addition to everyone contributing to the global efforts around safe practices, IT enterprises will need to ensure the health of their business by innovating to meet new needs. In turn, the IT workforce will need to follow suit and pursue relevant skills and knowledge to stay relevant and effective.”
– RV Raghu, Director of Versatilist Consulting India Pvt. Ltd.
